Google Mark-up
Google's new rel="nofollow" attribute for links has a lot of people applauding (and being self congratulatory :D), but I have two questions:
- Don't we already have
<meta name="robots" content="nofollow">for this? - Isn't this a case of a vendor pushing their own mark-up? I thought that was bad?
Granted, this is more granular, and allows for finer control. It puts the option to bestow PageRank upon whomever a blog author wishes. Which is good... I guess... And, yes, I realize the rel attribute can have any value, so it's not technically non-standard. But how soon before they suggest rel="googleFriendly" or something more obviously vendor specific? On the other hand, if this works, I may finally get around to coding a comments box for this blog again. Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all, but my first reaction is cautious.
