Wedding Gifts

Today I learned that a couple of my friends in Phoenix got a wedding gift for me and Texas in anticipation of what at the time seemed like our imminent marriage. I was quite moved at the gesture, and saddened all over again at what was lost. I do believe I dodged a huge bullet and I wouldn't be the man I am today had I married her, but still, there's some sadness. I am again impressed with how awesome my friends are. Wow.

I still have my personal favorite wedding gift from when Christin and I were married. It's a MagLite that is engraved:

"Though I sit in darkness
The Lord will be my light"
Micha 7:8b

That's the second half of the verse. More interesting to me lately is the first half:

"Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will rise."
Micha 7:8a

That part seems more apropos for her and me these days. By the way, happy anniversary, Christin!
