Highlights from Our Trip To The Big Easy

Michelle and I took a trip to New Orleans over the weekend. A friend of her's was getting married up in Covington, and we had decided to drive and make it a road trip! So, why not make a mini-vacation out of it and see something new?

Answer:  no good reason.

We left at O-Dark-Thirty Friday morning and got into New Orleans around 6 that evening. We had time that night to see some sights. Saturday we did more exploring in the morning and afternoon. That night was the wedding and reception. Sunday we slept in and then headed back. We made it home early Monday morning.

Highlights:

  • Jambalaya!
  • Seeing a Catfish leap up into the air right out of the Mississippi River, twice!
  • Seeing a random woman puke a bright-pink stream of vomit. This is when it sunk in that "I'm really on Bourbon St."
  • Eating at Cafe Beignet and watching Steamboat Willie perform.
  • Breakfast at Rosey's Diner. Their ads say "Breakfast Perfected," and it is an example of Truth in Advertising.
  • Listening to and buying a CD of some local artists at a funky record store.
  • Buying some lovely photography for our walls at home.
  • Drinking a Hurricane at Lafitte's, in the oldest continuously operating bar in the United States.
  • Getting very buzzed from said Hurricane and being silly and weird for three hours.
  • Discovering during this period that I have really big lips! and going: "Bbbbbb" repeatedly.
  • Only vaguely remembering all this and cracking up when Michelle explained it to me on the car-ride home. Michelle being one of those annoying people who can drink and drink and never get drunk.
  • Having long talks in the car about stuff.
  • Listening to Michelle read every sign along the road (like the dad in Forget Paris)

Of special interest to frugal people is the fact that we got a smokin' deal on a 4-star hotel room. They're really trying to encourage visitors again. Give New Orleans a try!

All in all it was tons of fun.

Michelle's impression of me going "Bbbbb" is hilarious, by the way...
