How to Look-Up Words Super Fast (And Save Your Wrists!)
It's possible to set up a keyword search "quick lookup" in Firefox, by putting a %s in the bookmark url, and then adding a keyword.
For example, if your url is this: http://ninjawords.com/%s, and you add the keyword "d" (for "Dictionary"), typing d en masse in your address bar will replace the %s with a url encoded version of what you typed, and take you to the Ninja Words Dictionary Entry for En Masse.
A little known "feature" of keywork "quick lookups" is that you don't need the keyword %s for a search term. So, my only "bookmarks" anymore are keyword "quick lookups" but without the keyword.
This saves you having to type repeated urls all the time. Less typing == more time to use my wrists for other purposes. That sounded wrong. More time before my wrists succumb to CT is what I meant.
My favorites:
- gm - for Gmail (pictured above)
- gr - for Google Reader
- as - for Adsense Stats
And I still have a bunch with the keyword:
- d %s - for the Ninja Words lookup described above. Faster than dictionary.com and no stupid pop-ups!
- php %s - for looking up PHP functions.
- g %s - for googling anything, but this is only non-redundant in the case of trying to look up something php related. Google is the default search on my browser.
- Yes, I have drunk the Google Kool-Aid! {Busts through the wall} Oh Yeah!
Any other tips for faster surfing or saving having to type?
