Non-Flash Widgets
As a follow-up to Flash Widgets, I have learned not only does MySpace not allow script tags, but clicking from a flash widget has recently been disabled.
Ouch! So much for that extra week of trying to figure out Flash. I'm going end up building the widget as a boring HTML version.
This is a blessing and a curse. Not having the JavaScript or Flash versions available means the widget will not be nearly as cool as they once were. Having to do it in HTML, however, means that once again I'm using a technology I love and understand. This was the case with the JavaScript version (it was killer, did everything, and in 1.5k), but I was drowning in Flash. A good Flash developer could have come up with a better working version of my widget in 30 minutes.
In fact, if you're interested, I'll pay for 2 hours of your time to take what I have so far and make it sing. Contact me.
To my credit, and if I do say so myself, the Flash widget I came up with actually sort of worked. Sort of.
I press on with the concept. Once the widget is again completed, the site will be ready for launching.
Flash Widgets
Hi! It's been a while since I posted. Sorry about that.
I've been working on a widget for MySpace that people can embed in their profile. I got it all ready and working flawlessly in a 1.5K JavaScript file called from a <script> line. Then I tested it in my MySpace profile and realized it won't accept script tags. Whoops!
So, I've decided to try and implement it in Flash. I don't know jack about Flash. Other than there are symbols, and a symbol can be a button, and a button can contain text from arbitrary sources, like urls, which is how you get dynamic data into flash. Hopefully, that knowlwedge will be enough for me to get started.
Wish me luck!
If you're a MySpace user, and you're interested in the widget, let me know and I'll tell ya where to go.
