Long Shots
One reason for my enduring love of Da Vinci's Inquest is the long shots. Some scenes, especially later in the series, are done in 1 take, in 1 long shot, sometimes lasting 10 minutes. In these scenes, the camera follows the characters down the street, through a building, all over the place!
Any great examples of fun cinematography? Long shots? Brilliant shots? Share them in the comments!
Here's to long shots (and good music)! Enjoy Feist, 1 2 3 4! (via project.ioni.st)
Pan's Labyrinth
Michelle and I went to see Pan's Labyrinth. Excellent Movie! It made a great point about un-questioning obedience vs. doing what is truly right. The story is very engaging and rich. Highly recommended!
But! Despite this being a fantasy tale with a young heroine, do not bring your kids! It is very violent.

My two word review: "Jesus Christ!"
(So reviewed because of, unfortunately, the most repeated dialog in the film.)
Seriuosly, though, I wasn't that impressed. It was neat and all, but first of all, I didn't like the pace of the moive. There were some moments to breathe in the begining and while the story is on the ship. Once they get to the island though, it's non-stop action. Action action action!
Wait. I take that back. It was action -- interspersed with what I'll call, "Moments with the Monkey." Let's have a moment with the Monkey... Now we see how cute the monkey is. Now we see how sensitive he is. Now we feel sad for him. Action, action, action! Moment with the Monkey... awww. Action, action, action! Moment with the Monkey... *sigh* Action action action!
One last thing - the CGI is great and all, but when I'm watching a CGI monkey fight CGI dinosaurs in a CGI background, I start to think, "it's not drama, it's a video game."
Bad stuff aside, some of the moments with the monkey were funny and the action was engaging. Definitely see it on the big screen with Dolby Digital for full effect, but otherwise... eh... rental. Go see Narnia again. I'll go with!
Oh, and Naomi Watts made my short list of blondes. Interesting to note that she blinks about three times in the whole film.
