Streams, Again
I haven't really hyped it, because a) it's not done and b) it's not done because I'm not sure how to finish it [which is my answer, now that I think about it, below] - but try Streams. The idea is, you get a starter word, and you "stream" - stream of thought, stream of consciousness, from that starter.
When you're done, you can link to it. Here's a stream I did for the starter, Spider. Cool huh?
I wanted the goal to be getting at stories deep down. Stuff we've forgotten. Hence, at the end, you can also "tell a story".
It's kind of a writing tool, kind of a creativity tool, kind of a memory tool or a feeling tool - a way to probe deeper into one's own memories/feelings, and a lot of things. I'm not sure if I should let it be ambiguous, or if I should say "it's definitely a writing tool, and feelings be damned!" or visa versa.
It would be nice to see a community form around it, but there's not enough there. It needs more meta stuff. More links. Right now it's kind of one-on-one and a little private, and that's good, but it's almost too private.
I think the answer to my problem (above) is to "keep going" and get a few more things up there and see what sticks. I'm currently in paralysis by analysis.
Some thoughts I've had.
- There is a daily starter. Everyone streams on that one. It would be like "song fight".
- Voting for cool streams. Or Thumbs-up or something.
- The latest streams which are "done" on the home page.
- Members/login/etc. "my streams" and so forth.
- Trying to play up the "stories" aspect, and have the latest stories on the home page
Your own thoughts? Try it out and let me know what you think.
Stole Streams Layout
I liked the layout for Streams so much, I decided to steal it.

March 2008 Update: Streams is now the new StreamStory!
I've created a new web-tool called Streams.
You are shown a random word. You type what that word makes you think of, then the next thing you think of, and you keep going. It's like free word association, stream of consciousness, free thinking, etc.
Currently the only way to revisit your stream is to use the "link to this stream" link at the bottom (which only shows up after you've started a stream).
The site sets a cookie, so if from the same browser you go back to your stream, you can edit it. If you sent the link to someone else, they will only be able to read the stream.
I'm working on being able to save a stream and will add that soon. Other features are also in the works (not too many though, want to keep it simple).
Possible uses are: jump-starting creativity, getting feelings out, getting into memories that are old, letting it all out, emotional dumping, healing...
Please try out Streams and let me know what you think. At the very least if you don't start a stream, please Suggest a starter.
